Ames resident Chris Ford takes a seat (well, he sits down some of the time) in front of the piano and soulfully belts lyrics laden with social commentary and subtle humor while a six-piece horn section, drummer, and bassist pump Ford's melodies with intricate, bold, and often dance-y harmonies and rhythms. Christopher the Conquered, with the help of the Black Gold Brass Band, has gained a reputation for its loud, jazzy, and extremely dance-friendly performances. The band played at the 2011 80/35 music festival and is set to open for Leslie & the LYs and Kimya Dawson later this spring at Iowa City's Mission Creek Festival. Maximum Ames Records is releasing Christopher the Conquered's second full-length album, The Fate of a Good Man, in April.
